Registered Nurse - recognition
Permit Process
Process to gain a professional license
To be able to work in Germany, the foreign qualification must be recognized in Germany (recognition). After the nurse has received an employment offer, all documents required will be collected by us, certified and translated. The recognition office of a federal state (e.g. Baden-Württemberg) decides which documents have to be submitted and in which form. Each state has its own criteria.
After going through the recognition procedure for a professional practice permit as a nursing professional, you will receive either full recognition (as a nursing specialist) or partial recognition.
You will a get partial recognition if significant differences are found between the foreign and the German professional qualification. A deficit notice will be issued. A deficit notice describes the necessary measures to obtain full recognition after all.
These necessary measures can be:
Additional theory lessons, additional practical hours in the individual departments or language deficits. In practice, this is either an adaptation course or a knowledge test. The decision as to whether an adaptation course or a knowledge test is an option is usually made by the employer (hospital, nursing home or retirement home).
